    Puttu sokanathar temple is located in the city of Arapalayam, Madurai, Tamil Nadu and is about 1000-2000 years old. The nineth day of Avani Moola Festival is "Puttukku Man Sumandha Leelai" (Lord Shiva carried soil for earning puttu in order to help out a old lady).

   Puttu is a delicious and soft food famous in South India. This Thiruvilayadal will be happened at Puttu Thoppu near Madurai and also the deities Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar will be taken out to there to perform this leelai. Lord Subramaniyan along with His wife Deivanai from Thiruparankundram temple will participate in this festival.

   Puttu Thiruvizha (Festival) is the one among the 64 Thiruvilayadals of Lord Sundareswarar. It is celebrated at Puttu Thoppu in Madurai city every year in the Tamil month of "Avani". The Meenakshi Amman Temple will remain closed on this occasion, since the deities will be taken out for the festival.Even now, to mark this event, on September 4 of every year, a function is held in the river bank of Arappalayam and 'Puttu' is cooked in every household.

   Arapalayam is nearly 1 km from Meenakshi Amman Temple, Railway station and central bus stand(periyar). Arapalayam was a busiest industrial area a few years back.
